Friday the 13th is believed, by the superstitous, to be a day of poor luck. I’ve never really paid much attention to it and never ran into any significantly worse luck than normal. That is until this past iteration of it.
July 13th, 2007, I didn’t even realize it was a Friday the 13th until checking my emails when I got into work at Sybase. Everything was going fairly smoothly during the day. I briefly mentioned to a friend that it was Friday the 13th – he hadn’t realized it either. The troubles started happening later that evening.
Unknown to myself, that friend got into a car collision later on that day. I only found out about it when he called me earlier today (Saturday the 14th) to tell me. Luckily (or at least, as luckily as you can get in a car crash) no one was injured.
I also came home to a dead Western Digital 80GB SE that’s been passed through computers over the past five years. I believe it was the hard drive I purchased for the very first computer I built myself. It also died on Friday.
To top it all off, I discovered last night (purely by accident) that this site looks absolutely hideous in Internet Explorer 6. I’ve upgradede to 7, which seems to render pages much closer to Firefox and Safari. I’ll have to do some work to fix up the issues I saw in IE6.
