Got Owned

Just a quick update to pretty much wrap up the week here. I did my CDT (computer delivered test) today and finished in record time (oh, the joys of teamwork I tell you). That means I’ll be done of classes at a mere 11:20am tomorrow. That’s just plain unheard of in the engineering faculty. 😛

I went to another ASIC meeting today. The first timer’s (myself included) have finally wrapped up the tutorials needed to get a handle of how to use the Cadence software for designing the SRAM. So today, we were given a piece of the design to work on. This is where I got completely utterly owned. While I knew generally how to use the software, I didn’t even know where to start. How to connect those components together to optimize space? Or what metal layer am I supposed to use to connect them? It was generally ugly but I finally got a small beach head established towards the end of the session. I’m probably going to do some work on it at home this weekend. I’m actually very excited to be working on the project. It’s just a little over my head right now. It’s one thing to be able to follow a well-detailed tutorial to layout an inverter, but it’s totally another story when it comes down to designing a decoder block without that helpful guiding hand. It’s just going to take a little bit of work and reading. (Yeah, that was another thing, I couldn’t open an internet browser for some reason on that Sun Solaris workstation…)

I read one of the funniest things in a long time today. I’d suggest you check it out. If you’ve heard of Family Feud (of course you have, who hasn’t, really) it’s extra good. Some of them All of them are completely retarded and just goes to show how little some people know. Of course, we benefit from that because we can laugh our asses off. No, I’m not talking difficult questions they couldn’t answer. I’m talking about the common sense some seem to lack.

Off to bed. I’ve been so tired these past few days. I can’t wait to sleep like hell this weekend.
