To Make My Life Sound Interesting

This is going to the first of a couple things I want to get down before I go to bed tonight. It’s been only really one day a bit since my last update, but it feels like much longer for some odd reason. I may not get to post too much in the upcoming days since I’ll be moving back to Waterloo on the 2nd and I start work on the 3rd. I’m sure I’ll have my hands full.

I’ll be honest here. I feel somewhat alien out here in Niagara Falls. In fact, tomorrow will probably be the first New Year’s Eve in a long time that I’ll spend with the family. I’ve got no where else to be really. Now I’m not saying that being with the family’s not a good thing. Far from it since I don’t spend that much time with them during most of the year now. But the fact it, New Years is a time I’ve always spent with friends. It’ll be different not doing that this year. I know there are others in much the same position, some without even family to spend it with, so I should be grateful for that.

The game I bought my Dad for Christmas has been (and still is) a bit hit. Civilization IV. I even have to admit it’s a pretty nice looking game. I mean it must be addictive if there’s an ALARM system built into the game to remind you after a certain amount of time has passed. Apparently people lose track of that precious commodity called time when they delve into the digital world. I’ve done it myself. Speaking of games, I’ve loaded up all the possible games I want to play over the work term. I started up a few of them (Steel Panthers 3 and Rome: Total War) and I realized how much I’ve missed gaming. It’s been quite a long time that I’ve been able to just enjoy myself and play a few games. University does that to you even though I gather computer majors game a lot. I would’ve guessed I’d fit into that category upon entering university, but it’s really been the opposite. I rarely play anymore. Quite a shame really… At one point before university, I thought I was going to have a hell of a time controlling my gaming. I even went so far as to uninstall most of them. It probably wasn’t necessary. All my free time was spent either sleeping, talking to people, or eating. That’s about all the time there’s left.

So we got everything set up properly for the TV and all. The computer seems to be working well there although we found out 10-15ft is a little too far for the wireless keyboard and mouse usage. I’ve got the Bluetooth mouse down there right now which can work a lot further than the normal RF devices, but they keyboard’s kinda useless still. I’ll have to pick up a Bluetooth keyboard to complement the mouse, but the only one I’ve found so far is an Apple keyboard which I’m sorry to say is a little overpriced for what it offers. Well… if you like Apple I guess you’d be willing to shell out the cash. Plus its white-ness doesn’t really fit too well with the black and silver look of the home theatre. Oh, but let me tell you, playing Rome Total War on that TV is pure bliss. With the details all turned up to high, it’s just plain glorious to recreate your own Gladiator-esque battles whatever way you want. In fact, I installed Rome Total War again because of Gladiator. Every time I watch it, I have this urge to play the game. I watched the movie (again) a few days ago. What a great movie.

Ok so I’m rambling a bit. Oh I remember what I wanted to say. I’ve been reading a lot recently. And no, I don’t mean I’ve been reading stuff on the internet. I’m reading something I can hold in my hands, in this case the Dune series. Yeah, well, I’m still not done. Actually I finally finished the last of the 6 prequels to the original Dune books and I just started on Dune last night. I’ll read some more tonight if this posting doesn’t take too long.

Oh and WordPress 2.0 is out now. I still haven’t decided whether to upgrade or not right now. Chances are there’ll be an update to this once some bugs are found/worked out. There’s quite a bit of talk about the problems it’s presenting right now. Based on the features it’s touting though, it could make a lot of these extraneous plugins I’m using pointless. I’ll definitely have to look into it and the upgrade process doesn’t look too bad.
