I’m in the midst of three weeks of absolute hell that is the 2B semester of Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The three weeks consist of first a project and 3 labs, then a week of 5 midterms, followed by another week with 3 labs. There’s been little time to do anything outside of schoolwork, and when I do get some down time, all I want to do is sleep because I’m so tired. To those who warned me about the 2B semester, you were definitely correct. It’s not that the material itself is beyond comprehension; it’s just difficult to stay on top of all the work, especially at busy junction in the semester, such as midterm time.
I’ve completed three midterms so far: ECE222 – Digital Computers, ECE204 – Numerical Methods, and earlier this evening, ECE231 – Electronic Devices. The first two went fairly well. The last one was mediocre at best. A little bit of panic and brain cramping led to and inability to differentiate correctly for one of the questions. Alas, what’s done is done and I’m moving on, to ECE251. Truth be told, I haven’t started studying for that midterm yet, which is tomorrow. However, time management is one thing they preach at this school and that’s exactly what I’m doing. First off, the midterm is worth as little as 10% of the overall mark (assuming I do better on the final) and I’ve already completed the project, which necessitated knowledge of the course already. I imagine without looking at the course slides, I’d easily pass. But a pass isn’t what I’m shooting for, so tomorrow will be a day filled with studying.
I’m looking forward to the end of next week, when I’ll be able to shrug off all the work for a little while. Pardon me if I don’t post much over that period.
