After deciding earlier this year to wait for SSDs to mature a bit more before jumping in feet first, I still picked up a 32GB Patriot Warp SSD as a test unit. NCIX had them on for $50 after MIR during their Boxing Day sale. I decided it was cheap enough to warrant a test run. Hopefully the workloads I use my laptop for won’t get me into trouble with the oft-mentioned stutters and freezes resulting from the use of the JMicron controller.
I wasn’t sure if 32GB would be enough, but some rationalization (and the fact my Vista partition currently is only 20 of 30GB used) makes me optimistic that the small storage space shouldn’t be too detrimental to my usage patterns.
The drive should be arriving tomorrow; I’m looking forward to sharing some thoughts after I test it out.
