Really? RIM was blindsided by the Kindle Fire’s pricing? I’m not really sure the two were competing in the same space (e.g. PlayBook aimed at business/pro users versus the Kindle Fire at first time/impulsive/opportunistic tablet purchasers), aside from being approximately the same size.

Do analysts piece stories together with arbitrary data that is top of mind these days? The PlayBook price cuts started happening well in advance of the Fire’s pricing or announcement, in mid-September. Sad what can “information” can influence the markets.

Windows Phone 7 – North America!

I had a chance to see the AT&T offerings today, at the Windows Phone 7 launch on campus. The launch devices are pretty good, with the Focus coming out ahead in my opinion. Perhaps the most surprising thing was that the HTC Surround isn’t a complete write-off as I originally thought it to be. It feels really solid in-hand, and the design is great. Even if you never use the slide-out speaker, it still ends up being a pretty great device, and not horribly thick (13mm).

I wonder if his continued work within the entertainment and devices division is to push in the direction of ‘appliance-like’ devices?

Nikon launched the D7000 this evening. It’s looking mighty fine. Here are some of the standout features for me, which have me salivating:

Mag alloy chassis
AF fine tune
Meters with non-CPU lenses(!!!)
1/8000s shutter
Real mirror lock-up
39-point AF
100% viewfinder(!!!)

I await proper reviews with impatience.

A Gorgeous Weekend Awaits

Boy, it’s going to be toasty. I’m making the trip up to Mount Rainier on Saturday. I’m excited. The plan is to start the hike from Paradise this time, so the sun isn’t behind the mountain the entire way, like the last time, when I started from Sunrise.

Yes, I’m trying to switch over to Fahrenheit. At least I know 90 is warm.
