I can see why the 2B Computer Engineering term is considered one of the tougher ones.
The classes and subjects themselves aren’t terribly difficult. There are no killer classes like Calculus to mess with things, but the real kicker is the 4 labs. Every other week, I go through a week of death where I attempt to do 4 pre-labs and 4 lab reports. And these labs can be challenging. The amount of work that needs to be done is quite extensive. One recent graduate of the Comp Eng program at the University of Waterloo warned me that the labs were the most difficult part of the 2B semester. I tend to agree, now that I have first-hand experience.
Last night was probably one of the more difficult and tiring lab work sessions. Since ECE222 (Digital Computers) was our last lab report of the week, there was little enthusiasm left to tackle the project. It didn’t help that it wasn’t started until around 9:30pm (and due the next day). With muddled mind, it took until nearly 1am to complete. But did it ever feel nice to hold the final print out in my hands.
And it’s going to be like this every other week. The only way I can foresee anything else is if I start the labs much, much earlier, which probably isn’t a bad idea.
Meanwhile, it’s the Thanksgiving long weekend and I’m glad for the extra day of rest. A good friend from PEI, currently studying at McGill in Montreal, will be visiting relatives in Guelph for the weekend. Since the drive is only a bit more than an hour from home, I’m going to make the trip tomorrow to do some catching up. I’m really looking forward to that.
