I would normally never write about that jobs I’ve applied to or interviews landed through the co-op process, but in this instance, it’s all a bit too exciting to keep to myself. Plus, I’d like to be able to look back on this moment in my life when I’m old and gray.
I was chatting with some friends over lunch this past Thursday, when I got an email that almost knocked me out of my seat. Whipping out my BlackBerry, the first thing I saw was the name of the Microsoft recruiter for the University of Waterloo. Heart skipped a beat. I read on with nearly uncontrollable excitement to find that I’d been selected for an interview of the Product Planner position I applied to over a week ago. I’m sure my friends enjoyed the goofy grin I sported while drinking in the entirety of the email.
I’m certainly excited about the prospect of working at Microsoft, especially as a Product Planner, the type of combo business and technical position that I’ve always dreamed of. That’s why I’ll be dedicating part of the weekend to preparing for the interview, probably more than I’ve ever done in the past. The competition will be intense and I intend on showing why I am the right person for the job.
On an unrelated note, I found out the custom business cards I designed and had professionally printed are of the standard international size, not the standard U.S. size that North America uses. How awkward…
wow that’s really fast… they just looked at the job applications yesterday!

Congratulations, Charlie. Good luck on the interview and I look forward to hearing what the job is all about. The job description on Jobmine was vague but interesting at the same time. I didn’t get an interview for that one, but I will be interviewing for a PM role.
Thanks Richard. I’m also interesting in learning more about the position. In the mean time, I’ve been researching a bit more about it, especially searching for first-hand experiences of Microsoft employees with some luck. It sounds like the role is heavily dependent on the business unit as well.
