I picked up a 1000he a week ago. I love the damn thing. Small, compact, powerful and perfect. I was thinking how bad it would be without an optical drive but then I realized - I have not used one for a very long time. The only thing I use one for is my blu-rays. Other than that, nada. I don't burn or rip anything. Besides, if I need an optical drive, I can use my desktop one through the network.

Most all media now is via USB drives or downloads.

I got the Asus EEE PC 1000h and I am happy with it. I've been meaning to get an Eee PC 4G since the day it got out but never really got to buy one.
The 1000h is larger than the 4G cause it sports a bigger screen and a larger hard disk. Well the 4G Eee PC had SSD on it unlike the 1000h.

The 4G is still one of my favorite gadgets even though i never really got one. (I used my friends Eee 4G) You've got to respect that they started this UMPC / netbook line.

Willis - Those are absolutely within the realm of reason on a device like the Eee PC. In fact, even multitasking between those apps should be more than acceptable. Of course, if you're limited to those applications in particular, you'll need a Windows-based version, or if you can get away with using OpenOffice, then any Linux-based netbook will work just fine as well.

I recently wrote a review of the Acer Aspire One. That might give you a better idea of the advantages and drawbacks of a netbook versus a full-sized notebook.

i am trying to do some research on smaller laptops like the EEE. I am trying to get something really portable so i can tote it back and forth from the library to do some research and I really like the portability of this thing. i am not sure if you guys can answer this for me, but I was wondering if I will be able to do the following things for it:

1. MSN messenger
2. Microsoft Word
3. Microsoft Powerpoint
4. Also I need to read PDF files.

Cheers and thanks in advance for the help

The one I used was the $399 version with the larger battery (5200mAh versus 4400mAh). I believe the only differences were the battery size and webcam between the $399 and $349 versions.

amiko - No problem. As you can see, even compared to the M1330, which is fairly small, the Eee PC is absolutely dwarfed.
